Pratibha 2007

There are n number of music competitions held across the country, and even in Mumbai. We have talented individuals presenting themselves and their talents to the audience. The audience too gets an opportunity to listen to some wonderful songs and music and in return applaud and appreciate the participants. A similar competition was held yesterday, in Mumbai. Had it not been for the esteemed group of people who participated in the event, it could be considered as yet another competition. But this time, the competitors were none other than doctors. Yes, our very own medicine-men who heal others. Most of the time, the healing is of the body, by the use of medicines. However, yesterday, they healed the souls of the audience too by rendering a variety of melodies, much to the delight of the audience. The very fact that the doctors too take out time from their busy schedules to fulfill their passion is indeed noteworthy. Towards the end of the competition, there were various performances by the doctors, which was also very well received by the audience. Some of the members of the audience started dancing on their seats and some of them actually reached the base of the stage and were dancing away to glory. Apart from the musical extravaganza, there was also an exhibition of paintings, photographs and handicrafts by the doctors themselves.

It is indeed heartwarming to know the extracurricular side of the doctors. May GOD bless the medical fraternity, not only for serving the society, but also for organizing such events for the benfit of their fraternity and the general public.

It happens only in India...

A famous actress, who also happens to be an ex-Miss Universe, was called to the civic headquarters in relation to a case filed against her. When she visited the office, she was welcomed with flowers. I have never heard of anyone being welcomed with flowers, especially when you happen to be embroiled in such issues and land up at the civic headquarters for investigations. I have nothing personal against her. Even I admire her - for obvious and not-so-obvious reasons... But still yaar. I mean, will any common man or for that matter even a not-so-common man be provided with the same treatment? If yes, then its total kudos to the civic body. If not, then atleast the officers of the civic headquarters had a wonderful day with a celebrity in their midst...

Happiness

One word that everyone understands, but yet, the definition or measure is differnt for each person. This was the topic of our discussion today. Whenever we go home early in the morning, after our night-outs in office, we see scores of people leaving their homes and going to their workplaces. Are they struggling to uplift themselves in the society? On second thoughts, who doesn't want to move higher in the society. Is it that they are struggling because they don't have secured jobs? Not really. That may be their shift timings, or they must be commuting long distances to reach their place of work. But the question still remains - Are they in a situation worse than ours? Not really. You just can't judge a person depending on the time he goes to work. We, for that matter, staying in office overnight may or may not be happy. It depends. Some people enjoy it, whereas some don't. It also depends on the frame of mind and attitude. A person may be filthy rich, but yet not happy. Whereas a person may be a pauper, yet very happy. So what defines happiness? While we were brooding and discussing over this, we noticed 2 dogs playing with each other. They were trying to snatch an empty cigarette box from each others mouth. It made me wonder - are they happy? But then there is no way to figure it out. Who knows what emotions go through their mind at any given point of time. Besides, they don't have to sit and slog like we do... And then it comes back again to the main point - Happiness. And more than that - Are we happy? Some food for though here...
